Southampton are reportedly considering a move for on-loan Fiorentina defender Micah Richards this summer.

The 26-year-old, who is currently at the Viola on a season-long loan from Manchester City, seems unlikely to sign a permanent deal with the Stadio Franchi outfit at the end of the campaign and will be out of a contract with the Citizens in June, though it looks like the Saints will be in need of his services next season.

According to the Sunday People, Southampton could lose key player Nathaniel Clyne in the coming months, as he’s been pursued by multiple clubs as of late including Liverpool and Manchester United, and may now be monitoring Richards as the perfect replacement for the right-back if he makes his departure.

Clyne still has a contract with the Premier League side until June 2016, but is thought to be more likely to choose a transfer over a renewal in the near future.

Richards has made seven Serie A appearances this term thus far.
