Luca Toni - Hellas Verona v NapoliHellas Verona striker Luca Toni has become the most recent recipient of the Beppe Viola Prize for his footballing career and for his honourable nature.

After his acceptance of the award Luca Toni was then asked about the lack of Italians in the scoring chats of Serie A and his Verona record.

The 6ft 4in striker’s most recent two goals came against Napoli and takes his tally up to 13 Serie A goals for the season, the top scoring Italian in the league.

“Clearly I’m happy with that, you have to wonder a bit where the Italian strikers are? If they are missing, maybe it’s because they play less and less, this is a problem in Italian football,” he toldĀ Hellas Verona’s official website.

Toni was also asked about his record for Verona. Toni has 33 goals for the Gialloblu, one more than club legend Preben Elkjaer and just two shy of Emiliano Mascetti.

“The records, I’ll look at them later, my goal is to train well during the week and to score goals on Sunday”.

A side note to all these accolades is that Toni is also climbing upwards in the all time Serie A scoring table, now sitting joint 27th with Christian Vieri and Marco Di Vaio on 142 Serie A goals.
