Juventus legend Moreno Torricelli believes the Scudetto is within his former club’s grasp following Monday night’s 1-1 draw with Roma.

The result left the reigning champions nine points clear at the top despite Carlos Tevez’s opener being cancelled out by Seydou Keita at the Stadio Olimpico.

“It’s not over yet, but it’s in Juventus’ hands,” said Torricelli in response questions posed by Tutto Mercato Web.

“Only the Bianconeri can lose it now.

“The guys are nine points ahead, haven’t lost head-to-head with Roma, and so haven’t allowed them any chance to build confidence.

“It was a game dominated for more than an hour by Juventus, and I now believe that Roma are fighting for second place.

“It’s hard to imagine Juve losing three games before the end of the season, so [for Roma] to overturn the deficit is far from simple.”

Former full-back Torricelli suggested a more competitive title race would be beneficial for Serie A as a whole.

“I don’t know whether it [a dominant Juventus] is good for the league,” he explained.

“Juventus are always strong, but in other leagues there are more competitive teams to challenge.

“In Spain, for example, there is Barca [Barcelona] and Atletico [Madrid] to battle with Real [Madrid].

“Though, this is a nice situation for Juventus.”

The 45-year-old also had time to express his hopes of witnessing a return to Champions League glory for the Bianconeri in the near future.

“In the last three years we expected something more at European level, but I hope that [Juventus] can do well in Europe.

“Unfortunately, or fortunately, Juve always need to pit themselves against the greatest powers of European football.”
