Valdifiori: Great to see internationals from small clubs

Valdifiori - ItalyEmpoli’s Mirko Valdifiori admitted he is happy to see a player from a smaller club featuring in the Italy squad and has thanked Antonio Conte for giving him a chance in the squad.

Valdifiori made his Azzurri bow in their 1-1 draw with England on Tuesday night, playing 67 minutes before being replaced by Marco Verratti and the 28-year-old was quick to thank everyone after the game.

“I want to thank the coach for the opportunity and the players for helping me improve,” he told Rai Sport after the game.

“I am also very grateful to Empoli, it is great to see a player from a small team in the national side.

“I have to remain humble and remember where I came from, I though about this a lot today.

“To make my debut with the Azzurri at Juventus Stadium is a great feeling.”
