PSG midfielder Marco Verratti feels Serie A is no longer the competition it once was, but is hopeful it can become great again.

The 22-year-old joined the Ligue 1 outfit in the summer of 2012 from Serie B’s Pescara and has been linked with various Serie A clubs, but Verratti insists he’s enjoying time in Paris.

“I’m lucky because I am at a great club but also play for the national team,” the Italian told Le Parisien.

“Serie A is no longer what it once was, but it does have the potential to be reborn.”

The highly-touted midfielder has already played for the Azzurri, and he thinks that the country should continue focusing on their youth.

“Now the Italian teams should focus more on their areas of young Italian talent.”

True (who can forget the 1990s? Possibly the most dominant period for any league in history) but it’s still ahead of Ligue Un.
