Rumours surrounding a possible return of coach Zdenek Zeman to Sardinian side Cagliari are starting to gather pace.

The Czech tactician was replaced by Gianfranco Zola in December last year, but a poor run of results has brought the Rossoblu back perilously close to relegation.

Cagliari lost 2–1 at home to Verona this weekend and now sit 18th in Serie A, three points away from safety.

Tuttomercatoweb are reporting that a phone call has taken place between Zeman and club president Tommaso Giulini which could signal a re-hiring of the fired coach in a hope that “Il Boemo” can reverse the fortunes of the struggling side.

Zola has today refused to entertain the idea of resigning, telling Sky Sport Italia that he “has other things on his mind.”

However, the decision may well be taken out of his hands should Zeman be tempted back to the Stadio Sant’Elia.
