Zdenek Zeman felt the missed chances in the first half cost his Cagliari side all three points in the 1-1 draw against Empoli.

The 67-year old Czech returned to the hot seat for the second time this season, after replacing Gianfranco Zola, but saw Matias Vecino injury time equaliser cancel out Joao Pedro’s opener for the Rossoblu.

”I think the only regret is not having finished the game off on the first half,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

”We spent so much time in the second half playing against the wind that we couldn’t create many chances.”

The veteran coach though was encouraged by what he had seen and feels that the team will improve.

”I always believe we will avoid relegation, the performance in the first half was good but we still need to improve physically.

“When we are good we can play against anyone in this division so it’s not always true that the table is correct, but matches are decided by small margins, andĀ if we keep applying ourselves correctly, and keep playing well then their is no doubt this team can improve.”
