Cagliari coach Gianfranco Zola denied he is looking to step down from his post with the Rossolbu after his side fell to a 2-1 defeat to Hellas Verona on Sunday.

The 48-year-old has only been at the club since December, but since his arrival he has been unable to lead them out of the relegation zone with Sunday’s defeat heaving even more pressure upon his shoulders.

“I am not thinking about my resignation,” Zola told Sky Sport Italia.

“The match has only just finished and there are other things to consider. Obviously I am not happy with the result.

“I accept my responsibilities and we must think of a way to get out of this predicament.

Zola also analysed his side’s performance on the day as well as the fan’s negative reaction to yet another home loss.

“The goals that Verona scored were ones that we had studied in the week but at the moment we are very fragile and this is affecting us.

“They took home the three points even though they put in the least effort.

“I am truly disappointed with this result but my players were committed and I want to thank them.

“We had lot’s of fans here today and they made a lot of noise.

“The result has created a negative atmosphere but these are the moments in which they need to help us.

“We are going through a difficult period and we need to show our character.”

The Sardinian club are now 18th in the Serie A table, three points adrift of safety.
