Mexes - AC MilanLast night’s Milan derby ended without score and AC Milan’s fiery French centre back, Philippe Mexes, was disappointed his side failed to make the most of the opportunity to beat rivals Inter.

The former Roma player was at the centre of some controversy in the second half after clumsily steering the ball into his own net.  Fortunately, the ‘goal’ was chalked off as Nerazzurri forward Rodrigo Palacio hauled down Luca Antonelli in the build-up to the move, sparing Mexes the embarrassment.

“It was a very tense affair,” he told La Domenica Sportiva. “Both sides wanted to win but it wasn’t ever going to be easy.

“After a good first half we dropped too deep and allowed Inter to take control. It would have been devastating to have lost the match through the own goal but the ref made the right decision to disallow it.”

Milan next face Udinese in the league as they continue to try and climb the standings after what has been a mostly disappointing campaign.
