AC Milan legend Demetrio Albertini has been appointed by a court judge to provisionally oversee the footballing operations at Parma following last month’s declaration of bankruptcy and the arrest of president Giampietro Manenti.

Albertini, who will work alongside the administrators currently running the club, has a long history in football management since his playing retirement in 2005. Until last year he served as the vice-president of the FIGC under Giancarlo Abete and he recently ran for the federation’s presidency, ultimately losing out to Carlo Tavecchio.

“Today the Bankruptcy Judge Dr. Pietro Rogato appointed Demetrio Albertini to assist administrators Anedda Angelo and Alberto Guion in regard to the bankruptcy proceedings of Parma FC,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.

“Albertini, who will carry out his functions on a provisional basis, will assist the administrators in relation to player and staff management at Parma and will support the activities of Angelo Anedda and Alberto Guion in their negotiations to restructure the club’s debt through the management of sporting and operational costs.

“Albertini brings considerable experience to this role and he enjoys established relationships with the current leaders of Italy’s national and international football institutions.

“This will enable Albertini to support the administrators in their interactions with the Italian Footballer’s Association, the Football League and FIGC so that they can find the best solution for the restructuring of debt at Parma FC.”

Since ending his relationship with the FIGC, Albertini has been linked with a role at AC Milan.
