Rafael Benitez NapoliRafael Benitez could yet extend his stay with Napoli after holding positive discussions with president Aurelio De Laurentiis in Castelvolturno on Tuesday.

With his current deal set to expire in June and rumours of friction with the club’s hierarchy, the Spanish coach’s future at the Partenopei has been in doubt for some time and it appeared earlier in the month that he was almost certain to leave.

However, Radio Marte reports that Benitez could yet agree to a contract extension after attending a positive meeting with De Laurentiis and his director of sport Riccardo Bigon.

It is believed that the Napoli management are more enthusiastic about retaining the 55-year-old’s services following an upturn in the club’s league form and a series of excellent results on the continent.

Napoli are back in contention for a Champions League spot after winning their last four Serie A fixtures, while they are through to the Europa League semi-finals following a 6-3 aggregate thrashing of Wolfsburg.
