Rafael Benitez NapoliNapoli coach Rafa Benitez was unhappy with his side’s finishing and lack of luck after being knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Lazio at the semi-final stage.

Despite being an away-goal to the good from the first leg, the Azzurri were largely positive during Wednesday’s clash with the Aquile, but a failure to take chances left them vulnerable and Senad Lulic’s 79th minute strike took Lazio to the final.

“We had several chances but they took theirs instead of us. That is football, we didn’t do what was expected and for that we are sorry,” the Spaniard told Rai Sport at the San Paolo.

“We are all responsible when a team creates but scores no goals, but there is also a lack of luck and in the last few games we have deserved more.”

The defeat marks a run of one win in nine games in all competitions for the Partenopei, heaping pressure on the soon-to-be out of contract Benitez.

“We have to wait until the end of the season [to decide what went wrong] but now we must give 100% and I want to prepare well for the game with Fiorentina – then I will talk about my future.

“The objectives set at the start of the season must be re-evaluated, but tonight the congratulations go to Lazio.”
