Rafael Benitez’s tenure on the Napoli bench appears to be coming to an end after the Spanish tactician turned down the Partenopei’s proposal of a contract renewal as he holds out for a return to the Premier League.
The 55-year-old is now in the last three months of his current deal and there has been uncertainty for some time over whether he would extend his stay in southern Italy beyond June, but it seems that his two year stay in Naples is coming to an end.
With Manuel Pellegrini set to be sacked by by Manchester City, Sport Mediaset reports that Benitez has turned down Napoli’s proposed contract renewal in the belief that he will be offered the Citizen’s job after compatriot Josep Guardiola, Man City’s first choice, turned down their advances.
Benitez has extensive experience of working in England’s top flight have previously been in charge of both Liverpool and Chelsea.
