Cagliari players and staff are reported to have been threatened and attacked by their own Ultras ahead of their Serie A match against Napoli on Sunday.

The Sardinians have been in ‘ritiro’, away from their homes and families at a training camp where they can focus completely on trying to avoid relegation to Serie B, as they are eight points away from safety with only eight games left to play this season.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that after coach Zdenek Zeman rewarded the players by cancelling their afternoon training session for the first time this week, around 30 Ultras broke into the Assemini retreat and threatened the squad.

There are reports of physical attacks on players and staff members in the form of slaps to the face, while some squad members fought back.

Cagliari have lost each of their last three league games and taken only a point from their last four games since the return of Zeman as coach.
