AC Milan Atalanta DenisAtalanta striker German Denis has explained why he stormed into the Empoli dressing room after the 2-2 draw at the weekend and punched rival Lorenzo Tonelli in the face.

El Tanque has been handed a five game ban for his actions whilst Tonelli has been hit with a one game suspension after the events of last Sunday afternoon.

“He [Tonelli] threatened to kill me and my family, in front of my own son,” Denis told reporters. It was this supposed development at the end of the tie which incensed the Argentine so much so that he hit the Empoli player after having followed him down the stadium tunnel.

Tonelli has since denied the claims, telling La Gazzetta dello Sport that he would never threaten a player with a child in attendance.

With six games remaining, Denis will now only be available to play in Atalanta’s final Serie A match of the season.
