Former Napoli left-back Andrea Dossena has shed light on the incident which saw him accused of shoplifting from Harrods in London in early April.

Dossena is now with English League One side Leyton Orient and hit headlines after being charged with theft from the upmarket Kensington-based store, but is adamant that it was a misunderstanding caused by his young son.

Speaking to Corriere Dello Sport, Dossena gave further details on the incident: “I went with my wife and son. In our house he takes nothing. We arrived at the checkout and paid, without noticing that in the bag there was also a pack of beef and a jar of honey. I do not know how it happened or how he did it.

“From there we were treated like terrorists. I was in disbelief, not only for the incident but also because I did not understand how it could happen. We didn’t have our documents with us so were taken to a police station at half past ten in the evening, despite the needs of a two-year-old child.”

Dossena confirmed that the matter has been dealt with.

“Two days after the event the police confirmed to me that the case has been closed.”
