Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has responded to critics of Samuel Eto’o following their 1-1 draw away at AC Milan.
The Blucerchiati had taken the lead after the Cameroonian played a beautifully weighted ball through the legs of Philippe Mexes which found Roberto Soriano unmarked in the Rossoneri box.
Speaking to Mediaset Premium after the game, Ferrero was in good spirits. “I am happy with the performance of the team,” he began.
“I am also happy with the performance of Eto’o.
“Everyone told me I had signed an old man in January, but his experience allows him to act as a coach on the field.”
Ferrero went on to reveal that the club’s ambitions extended as far as aiming for Champions League football in the coming years.
“We plan to visit Europe by bus or plane,” he joked.
“When I took over Samp I thought I could do well, but I knew nothing about football.
“Now, I think we can go even further. Next year we will aim to qualify for the Champions League.
“We are aiming for the top.”
Sampdoria currently sit in sixth place in Serie A, just one point behind Napoli in fourth.
