Newly-appointed Cagliari coach Gianluca Festa praised his team after winning 3-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi against Fiorentina and looks towards the Sardinian team’s next Serie A fixture against Chievo.

The 46-year-old tactician had been appointed head coach of the Isolani, replacing Zdenek Zeman, just four days ago, but nevertheless managed to lead his side to a surprise away victory against Europa League semi-finalists Fiorentina, with Diego Farias and Duje Cop being the difference in the encounter.

“We tried to create a lot of chances. The boys showed great commitment and did well,” Festa told Mediaset Premium after the final whistle.

“We had to free ourselves from all the pressure. We cannot give our opponents any advantages. The team showed great personality today.

“Salvation? We will try to do our best until the end of the season, we will try to recover for our next game against Chievo, but we think only about ourselves. Today I saw a great team spirit.”
