Gianluca Festa has been named the new coach of Cagliari, replacing Zdenek Zeman after the 67-year-old’s resignation on Tuesday.

Festa will take over for the remainder of the season and will be handed the task of saving the 19th placed club from relegation.

Former Cagliari striker David Suazo and Gustavo Aragolaza will be the Italian’s assistants, while Gianfranco Ibba and Giomaria Ruiu will take over as fitness and goalkeeping coaches respectively.

Festa’s last coaching position was with Lega Pro club Lumezzane before being fired in March 2013.

The 46-year-old will be the third coach to man the Cagliari bench this season, with Gianfranco Zola and Zeman both being sacked, before the latter’s most recent resignation only five matches into his second stint with the club.
