Roma coach Rudi Garcia says his side must collect three points against Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.

The Giallorossi have fallen to third position in the standings and one point behind fierce rivals Lazio in recent weeks, which has caused tensions to build within the club.

“We have to win on Sunday, I only care about Roma’s results but we are forced to win against Atalanta,” Garcia said in his pre-match press conference.

“I have a lot of respect for Atalanta, but I don’t fear them. They have a good attitude which comes from the coach [Edy Reja].

“We have to play well in attack but remain solid at the back.

“The players are very motivated. Training went well during the week I saw a lot of intensity and quality in their work.

“It’s easier to do that when we have a full week between games.”

With part of the Curva Sud closed on Sunday after offensive banners were flown during Roma’s last home game and comments made by president James Pallotta against some of the Ultras, Garcia was asked for his comments.

“I always prefer to play in front of a full stadium. It’s not a good situation to have some of the Curva closed. We are all in this together.

“The president has done everything to help this team grow. We have to have solidarity with him.

“The president is a blessing for the team. He does everything to promote the name of Roma.

“He cannot be blamed for the Curva been closed.”

Garcia was then asked about the injury situation concerning captain Francesco Totti and the condition of the other players who have missed games recently.

“Totti trained this week. He did a little running earlier in the week and then joined the rest of the group, he’s fine now.

“We all know when he’s at the top of his game he is of great value to the team.

“Miralem Pjanic and Gervinho should be ok but Seydou Keita will miss out as will Maicon, who has been a little unfortunate as when he seems to be taking a step forward in his recovery he then takes two steps back, but I hope to see him back soon.”
