Gian Piero Gasperini has admitted that his Genoa side could face a battle against Cesena, as he feels that Sunday’s game could be the last chance for the Serie A strugglers to avoid relegation.

The Rossoblu lost in their previous outing against Palermo, leaving them six points adrift of European qualification, and Gasperini knows that both teams will be desperate to win, especially with the Cavallucci Marini sitting seven points away from safety.

“For them [Cesena], tomorrow will be almost their last chance [to avoid relegation],” Gasperini told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“We have to prepare ourselves mentally for what will be a very difficult game.

“I think that a draw doesn’t benefit either side, neither us or them, because of this I expect a very open game, it will be a battle.

“We are ready and we will do everything we can to pick up the three points, I know that the fans are preparing a special choreography.”

Gasperini also briefly discussed his possible line-up for the game.

“[Leonardo] Pavoletti? He could be a solution,” he said. “He played well against Parma last time out.

“[Mattia] Perin? We’ll see how he is, if he isn’t available, [Eugenio] Lamanna is ready [to stand in goal].”
