Genoa Coach Gian Piero Gasperini believes his side needs to improve in front of goal, but was pleased with his side’s second half performance following a 2-1 defeat to Palermo.

The Rosanero dominated much of the first period as two goals from Ivaylo Chochev put the Sicilians 2-0 up at half time before Iago Falque fulled one back for the Grifone after the break.

“We did very well in the second half but we may have given too much away in the first half,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia after the conclusion of the match, in which he was sent to the stand late on.

“We paid greatly from some absences in a game and Palermo are always a challenging opposition, but the game was broken up too much by silly fouls.

“We had several chances in front of goal but were perhaps missing the clinical edge at times as we were not good at finishing, which is unacceptable.

“We will continue to fight for the Europa League spot as we much aim as high as we can.”

Gasperini went on to discuss opposition forward Paulo Dybala and his future as coach of Genoa.

“Dybala is on track to become a champion and is a player of great quality who moves very well and shoots very well.

“He is one of the most committed players on the field and consequently the two goals of Palermo scored are largely thanks to him.”

“We never talked about my future and I do not think the time is now.

“There are many rumors but we are focused on the end of this season.

“My stay depends not only on me, it is necessary that all parties are satisfied.”
