Mario Gomez dedicated Fiorentina’s semi-final placing in the Europa League to the club’s supporters after they overcame Dynamo Kiev 3-1 on aggregate.

It has been a difficult week for the Viola who were booed off the park on Monday night after losing 1-0 at home to Hellas Verona but the German was pleased that his side could give something back to their loyal fans.

He told Rete 4 after his side’s 2-0 win on the night: “It was a very hard match and I think that you could see how we are not used to playing in these types of games.

“For this, I am very happy that we managed to give this gift to the fans and to the club. It is important to win here because everybody gives 100 per cent.”

The goalscorer added: “I was pleased with the goal, God must have wanted me to score because two or three minutes before I slipped on another opportunity but that is football.

“We were sorry about what happened in the Coppa Italia but now we are here and we will see what happens in the draw,” he beamed.
