Fiorentina ambassador Martin Jorgensen believes the Viola can still reach the Europa League final, despite pulling out ‘favourites’ Sevilla at the draw in Nyon.

Vincenzo Montella’s men booked their place in the semi-finals with a 3-1 aggregate win over Dynamo Kiev but face arguably the toughest task in the last four after being paired with three-time winners and holders Sevilla.

Former Fiorentina and Udinese player Jorgensen thinks the fact the second-leg is in Florence gives the 1990 runners-up a chance of contesting the final in Warsaw come May.

“We have been drawn with the favourites,” the Dane told the press.

“It will be necessary to play very well over the two legs but, fortunately for us, we will play the second leg at home.

“For that reason, we still have hope we can reach the final.”

Fiorentina’s last European semi-final ended in disappointment, when they also had home advantage in the second leg. They missed out on the final in Manchester after losing on penalties to Glasgow Rangers in 2008.

If the Viola do make it to the final, it could be another all Italian affair. Having lost to Juventus in the 1990 Uefa Cup final, Fiorentina could face Napoli, who face Ukrainian last four debutants Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the other tie.
