Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri praised his side’s defensive work after grinding out a 0-0 draw against Monaco at Stade Louis II on Wednesday, securing a place in the Champions League semi-final in the process.

Juve went into the game on the back of a 1-0 win in the first leg and Allegri admitted that whilst it was not a vintage attacking performance, he was pleased with the way the defence stood firm.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset, Allegri stated, “Tonight the aim was to reach the semi-final. It certainly wasn’t a pretty game, we weren’t great technically but we had a good game defensively. The result was more important than the performance.”

Allegri felt that a place in the last four was no less than what Juve deserved, having only suffered defeats to Atletico Madrid and Olympiakos.

“I am very happy for the guys. We deserved a place in the semi-finals for what we have achieved in the Champions League. In nine games we lost twice undeservedly, in Madrid and Athens.”
