Former Inter defender Marco Materazzi predicts that the Nerazzurri will win Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan.
The 2006 World Cup winner, who spent 10 years at the Nerazzurri between 2001 and 2011, also stated that it’s impossible for any side to reach the Europa League as they sit in 9th and 10th place respectively.
“Its a final for the city,” he stated to the Corriere Della Sera. “However, I think it is impossible for either team to get into Europe.
“Inter’s quality is superior to AC Milan but [Inter coach] Roberto Mancini hasn’t been able to reverse their course.”
Materazzi also admitted that he almost joined the Rossoneri during his stint at Inter.
“In those days, I wasn’t playing much,” he said. “I didn’t want to miss the opportunity of the World Cup [in 2006], and Milan offered me a chance.
“However, [then-Italy coach] Marcello Lippi reassured me, and I stayed where I was. I went on to win everything.”
