Monaco’s Italian defender Andrea Raggi raged that the referee made the wrong decision in awarding Juventus a match-winning penalty in their Champions League quarter-final clash.
The Bianconeri went on to win the game in Turin by a solitary goal – scored by Arturo Vidal from the penalty spot after Alvaro Morata was brought down by Ricardo Carvalho.
While Raggi conceded it was a foul, he insisted the award was wrong: “The challenge was a foul but it was outside the box. It was not a penalty,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“We believe however that we played an excellent match and we think that 1-0 is a result that can definitely be overturned.”
He also admitted that contesting such a game was something he would never have believed possible when he first joined the club three years ago from Bologna.
“I came to Monaco when the club was in Ligue 2 so to have earned the right to play in the quarter-finals of the Champions League,” he continued. “To do so, is a great satisfaction for us as a team and for me personally.
“It is my third year here and I am very happy. It is a good team and I believe that [19-year-old team-mate] Anthony Martial can become one of the greats.”
