Palermo 2-1 Genoa: Clinical Chochev clinches Rosanero victory

Palermo defeated Genoa 2-1 at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on Sunday afternoon in Serie A action.

It was Palermo who came away with all three points thanks to two goals from Bulgarian Ivaylo Chochev, thanks to some great work from Paulo Dybala in the build up to the goals, before Iago Falque got one back for the visitors in the second half

Palermo’s Paulo Dybala made Genoa supporters sweat within the opening seconds of the match and nearly pounced on a hesitant Eugenio Lamanna who’s pondering clearance was closed down before the ‘keeper could gather the ball.

Genoa enjoyed a lot of the early possession and passed the ball well around the Palermo box but it was the home side who look the lead on nine minutes through midfielder Chochev.

Andrea Rispoli played the ball through to Dybala who ran into the box, unleashing a powerful effort onto the far post before the Bulgarian Chochev controlled the rebound before finishing past a stranded Lamanna.

Genoa forced a save out of Stefano Sorrentino from a tight angle moments later and again M’Baye Niang forcing the veteran stopper to tip round the post midway through the half.

Franco Vasquez forced Lamanna to tip over the bar before Palermo extended their lead in the 30th minute thanks to a great piece of work from Dybala.

The young Argentine ran through on goal before two Genoa defenders got back with the 21-year-old showing great strength to hold the ball up on the edge of the box before producing a through ball to Chochev, who slotted the ball in for his second of the match.

The away side hit a free kick over the bar and Rispoli tested Lamanna following a save at the end of the first half and Iago Falque should have done better with a curled effort at the beginning of the second.

Genoa pulled one back within eight minutes of the restart as Falque broke the offside trap when Edenilson chipped the Palermo defence as the ball landed kindly to the Spanaird in the centre of the box, as he slotted into the corner of goal from close range.

Palermo rattled the woodwork for the second time through Dybala, with Vasquez heading over the bar shortly after.

Palermo substitute Andrea Belotti hit an effort low for Lamanna to save comfortably while Genoa had a shot sail over the bar late on as the Grifone fell to their first defeat in three Serie A encounters.
