Parma could find themselves playing in Serie D next season, unless a source of major investment is found.

The Crociati are set to be relegated from Italy’s top flight, sitting 17 points away from safety, and could be denied access to Serie B should their financial situation not see a dramatic improvement.

Without a cash influx of at least €70 million, the only option for Parma to continue operating would be to drop down to the fourth level of the Italian footballing pyramid, report Corriere dello Sport.

The crisis club have failed to pay the wages of both the playing and coaching staff since last July, in a situation which earlier this year saw two matches postponed.

Serie D is the highest ranked league in Italy which considers itself to be non-professional.
