Lazio coach Stefano Pioli commended Juventus ahead of their Serie A clash, and firmly believes his team have no chance at the title even if they were to win on Saturday night.

Lazio themselves are on an eight-match winning streak in Serie A andĀ have earned a number of plaudits this season, owing to their consistent displays that have seen them overtake Roma into second place.

“I think, absolutely not,” said Pioli when asked if his side could target the Scudetto this season, at his pre-match press conference.

“Juve have such an advantage that even a win for us won’t change anything.”

Despite Biancocelesti’s brilliance on the pitch, Juventus are still way ahead in terms of league position- with a massive 12-point lead over Lazio.

“Juventus are definitely the strongest. They have demonstrated that and are continuing to do so. My compliments to [Massimiliano] Allegri, also for his European endeavours.

“Also, we want to do everything possible to continue our positive momentum. Our mentality is always the same: the next game is the most important. We will try to win.”

The Lazio coach then responded to claims on whether he could better the nine-match unbeaten run the club achieved during Sven-Goran Eriksson’s tenure.

“We never thought about the record, we have always thought one game at a time,” Pioli said.

“I think this year it’s important to lay the foundations. It takes quality and continuity, but still there is a long timeĀ before we can talk about the Scudetto.”

And while the 49-year-old had optimistic news regarding the availability of goalkeeper Federico Marchetti, he ruled out Stefan Radu, Stefan De Vrij and Marco Parolo for the game at the Juventus stadium.

“We have to decide whether Marchetti will need a face mask or not, but he is ready to play.”
