Tensions will be high for Sunday’s Serie A clash between Roma and Atalanta, as the police looks set to keep a close eye on proceedings ahead of the game.

The police’s cautions come after the war of words between Roma president James Pallotta and Roma fans, with the club’s ultras calling for a gathering en masse before the game.

Local authorities reported that they will hold a meeting at the police station to discuss the security measures to be implemented for the game. The authorities add however that there will be a “substantial” number of security officers employed.

The Roma ultras’ ire come in response to Pallotta’s criticism of the ultras after they unfurled an offensive banner towards the mother of the deceased Ciro Esposito, which precipitated the closing of the Curva Sud by the FIGC.
