Roma right-back Maicon looks set to miss the rest of the season as he continues to suffer from the knee injury which has plagued his season.
The Brazilian has complained of inflammation to the knee, with Roma’s medical team inidicating that he will not be able to return to full fitness any time before the current Serie A campaign is wrapped up on May 31.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Maicon has been effectively ruled out for the rest of the season and will not be able to aid his teammates in their challenge to maintain a spot in the Champions League over the coming weeks.
It is a bitter blow for the former Inter man, with speculation increasing over his future at the Giallorossi following this latest injury setback.
Capped 76 times by Brazil, Maicon arrived at Roma in 2013 following a disappointing season at Manchester City and has gone on to make 42 appearances for Rudi Garcia’s team.
