Portuguese tactician Paulo Sousa has become the latest candidate to be linked with the Sampdoria job, in the event Sinisa Mihajlovic departs the club at the end of the season.

The Serbian is in high demand following an impressive league campaign, and looks likely to leave the Stadio Luigi Ferraris after refusing to commit himself beyond June.

Il Secolo XIX reports that president Massimo Ferrero has turned his attention towards Basel’s Paulo Sousa as he seeks a coach with an international profile, although the publication notes that other candidates, such as Eusebio Di Francesco, Giuseppe Iachini and Stefano Colantuono, are also in the frame.

Paulo Sousa is himself no stranger to Italian football, having spent five years as a player in Serie A, representing Juventus, Inter and Parma.
