Sampdoria striker ruled out for remainder of season with knee injury

Sampdoria have confirmed striker Eder will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.

The 28-year-old Brazilian-born Italy international suffered the injury during Sunday evening’s 4-2 defeat to Napoli.

“Unfortunately, the negative feelings of last night were confirmed by examinations to which Eder has undergone in the early afternoon today,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

“The MRI performed by the medical staff of Sampdoria at the Laboratory Albaro revealed a sprain of the medial collateral in his left knee. The season of the attacker is to be considered over, within the next few days Eder will begin treatment to return to competitive football.”

Eder has scored nine goals in 30 league appearances for the Blucerchiati this season.

The attacker also scored on his international debut for Italy against Bulgaria in March following his controversial inclusion in Antonio Conte’s Azzurri squad.
