Empoli coach Maurizio Sarri has praised attacking midfielder Riccardo Saponara for his performance in the Azzurri’s 2-2 draw with Atalanta.
Saponara opened the scoring in the Sunday lunchtime game, played a part in Massimo Maccarone’s goal and had numerous other chances to score.
Sarri said that the midfielder who is on loan from AC Milan is a player that needs confidence in order to live up to his potential.
“He is an great talent, [but] he is a sensitive guy from a psychological point of view,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.
“For him to express himself best, he must find certain security. I hope he finds it [now and] in the future [where ever he goes] because he deserves it.”
Sarri praised Empoli’s performance against Atalanta but he believed that both sides could have won after the late drama in the match.
“We have certainly made a good performance, creating many scoring chances. I think we deserved the three points greatly but in the chaos in the final minutes they have found the same,” he concluded.
