Roma claimed an important three points as they defeated Champions League rivals Napoli whilst city neighbours Lazio overcame Cagliari.

Filippo Inzaghi gained a much-needed three points as AC Milan beat Palermo thanks to a late Jeremy Menez goal.

The formation chosen for the Team of The Week is 4-4-2. Two Fiorentina players make up the midfield and Lazio’s Keita Balde Diao plays of Luca Toni in the front pairing.

Luigi Sepe – Empoli (3 Team of The Week Appearances)

The on loan Napoli keeper parried countless efforts from the Juventus attack in the Saturday evening clash until he was ultimately beaten by strikes from Carlos Tevez and Roberto Pereyra.

Dusan Basta – Lazio (2 apps)

Kept the back door securely locked against Cagliari and pushed forward regularly down the right flank, linking up well with Stefano Mauri in particular.

Team of the Week 29Kostas Manolas – Roma (3 apps)

Comfortably deal with threats posed by the Napoli attack and made numerous interceptions. Never looked flustered and was always composed when in possession.

Kamil Glik – Torino (2 apps)

A captains performance from the Polish international. He won countless tackles, was commanding in the air and got on the score sheet too with a fine volley.

Massimo Gobbi – Parma

Gave everything for his side as Parma earned a well deserved point against Inter. Marked the opposing Nerazzurrri attackers ruggedly even if he did occasionally go behind the limits of the law. He also ventured forward on the odd occasion too to support his side’s attacks.

Carlos Carbonero – Cesena

The Colombian came on with his side trailing Verona by three goals and was instrumental in helping his side launch a remarkable comeback and claim a draw. Went close to scoring almost immediately after entering the field, delivered countless dangerous crosses and initiated the comeback with a thumping finish into the roof of the net.

Milan Badelj – Fiorentina

He may not  always make the headlines but the Croatian is fast developing into a regular fixture in the Viola midfield. Seemed to almost always appear wherever the ball was, winning it back and also using it constructively when receiving it.

Omar El Kaddouri – Torino (2 apps)

Displayed remarkable energy levels to consistently press the opposing Atalanta players for the duration of the whole match. Was a smooth operator when in possession, gliding past opposing players and also assisted the Granata’s second goal of the night.

Mohamed Salah – Fiorentina

Had a quiet first half but burst into life in the second. Exploited the spaces in the Sampdoria defence perfectly to double hs side’s lead with a precise finish and also went close to scoring again on a couple of other occasions.

Keita Balde Diao – Lazio

The former Barcelona starlet entered the field on the hour mark against Cagliari and turned the game in the Biancocelesti’s favour. The youngster tormented the opposing defenders with his pace and skill, winning two penalties for his side in the short spell of time he was on the pitch.

Luca Toni – Verona (3 apps)

The Veteran forward scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season in Verona’s entertaining 3-3 draw with Cesena. He demonstrated clever movement to get in front of his marker to net from close range for his first and added a second later on in emphatic fashion, crashing home an acrobatic volley.
