Former AC Milan forward Andriy Shevchenko has stated that it is a moment of transition for Milan and Inter ahead of Sunday night’s Derby della Madonnina.

With 36 Serie A titles and 10 Champions League trophies between, both Milanese clubs find themselves in 9th and 10th respectively this campaign, and the Rossoneri legend hopes both sides recover.

“I think it’s just a time of transition,” Shevchenko told Corriere della Sera. “It’s a big city, I hope that the teams will return to the where they were in the past.

“Certainly if one wins tonight, they will be in pole position to qualify for Europe.”

Concluding the interview Shevchenko was asked about the possible sale of AC Milan, as it is rumoured that longtime president Silvio Berlusconi is prepared to let go of his majority stake at the club.

“For me, Milan is Berlusconi,” he said. “I hope he still has enthusiasm and resources to invest in the team, but if not, then he’ll take the  decision that’s best for the club.”
