Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro believes the referee made the correct decision in awarding the Bianconeri an indirect free-kick that opened the door to their 2-0 victory over Empoli.

Daniele Rugani’s backpass was deemed voluntary by referee Piero Giacomelli, allowing Carlos Tevez to fire home from inside the penalty area, while Roberto Pereyra wrapped up proceedings with a goal in injury time.

“In my opinion the referee was correct did well to call a free-kick,” he told Rai Sport after the match.

“Maybe the goalkeeper [Luigi] Sepe made a mistake as I think [Daniele] Rugani wanted to put it out for a corner kick.”

The 22-year-old also described what it’s like to play for the reigning champions after making the move over from Genoa in January.

“It is easier playing with stars of this calibre,” he admitted to Sky Sport Italia.

“Today we had a good team in front of us, one that is prepared and organized. We suffered but together we were able to win.”

The win allows Juve to maintain their 14 point advantage on Roma, who were 1-0 winners over Napoli earlier in the day.
