Andrea Pirlo JuventusJuventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo scored a stunning free kick during yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to city rivals Torino and is now just one strike away from equaling Sinisa Mihajlovic, as the Serie A all-time top scorer from dead balls.

The Italian international was close to a second, as another effort smacked the woodwork leaving Granata keeper Daniele Padelli to stretch out his arms, as if to say that there is just nothing you can do to stop the mercurial play-maker.

“It’s pointless trying to study his technique,” the ex-Liverpool custodian told Tuttosport. “He changes every time he shoots.

“Of course we have watched some tapes but it makes no difference as he never strikes the ball the same way. You can set up the wall however you like, he still manages to get the ball over it.

“The best you can do is pray and hope for the best. Actually, it’s better not to concede a free kick to begin with.”

Current Sampdoria coach and record holder Mihajlovic scored 28 times from set pieces during his playing career, with Pirlo now just one behind after his goalĀ at the weekend.
