Inter legend and vice president Javier Zanetti says it’s crucial the San Siro club hold on to star striker Mauro Icardi.
The Argentine has scored 16 goals in Serie A this season but has been linked with a move away from the Nerazzurri in recent weeks, with Chelsea and Real Madrid reportedly interested in the striker.
“Our intention is to keep Icardi at the club, we want to build a team around him,” Zanetti said.
“We want to extend his contract. There are a few details to be ironed out but it’s crucial for Inter that we can agree a deal with Mauro.”
With Icardi’s agent, Abian Morano, due in Italy for the Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan on Sunday night, negotiations between all parties are expected to intensify.
