AC Milan defender Ignazio Abate is reportedly close to agreeing on a contract extension with the Rossoneri.

Abate, who is just one of seven players with an expiring contract for Milan at the end of the season, will likely put pen to paper sometime before the end of the season.

According to Sportmediaset the 28-year-old will sign a three year deal worth around €2.5 million per year.

The new deal would make the right back one of the highest paid players at the club after Riccardo Montolivo, Fernando Torres, Nigel de Jong and Philippe Mexes, with the latter two being out of contract at the season’s conclusion.

The defender, who has just reached 200 games with the Rossoneri since joining the club permanently in 2009, has become the first choice right back for the Rossoneri as well as occasionally featuring for the Italian national team.

Abate has made 22 appearances for Milan during the current season.
