AC Milan are reportedly ready to try their hardest to renew the contract of midfielder Nigel de Jong in the coming weeks.

The 30-year-old, whose existing deal with the Rossoneri is set to expire in June, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, where he would be reunited with former Netherlands national team boss Louis van Gaal, but it seems like the Italian side aren’t ready to give up on him yet.

According to TuttoSport, AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani recognises the important role that the Dutchman plays in the Diavolo midfield and is currently in the process of arranging a new agreement for the player in hopes of keeping him for a few more seasons.

Reports also suggest that De Jong has become a target of reigning Serie A champions Juventus in recent weeks, which could give the Milan side even more trouble in their mission to have him stay.

The midfielder, who arrived at the Stadio Meazza outfit from Manchester City in August 2012, has scored three goals in his 28 league appearances this term thus far.
