Massimiliano Allegri has labelled the current season extraordinary for Italian football as his Juventus side have reached the Champions League final and both Fiorentina and Napoli reached the semi-finals of the Europa League.

The Juventus head coach is just one trophy away from winning an historic treble with the Bianconeri in his first season in charge of the giants, but he has also taken the time to realise the progress the Italian game has made this season.

“This has been an extraordinary season for Italian football, but the story isn’t finished yet,” Allegri told reporters after collecting the Enzo Bearzot award.

“Juventus are in the final in Berlin, but two other teams came close to the Europa League final.

“The National Team is doing well, in Italy […] we are working on the positive things, such as the infrastructure or the future of youngsters in the game.”

The former Cagliari and AC Milan head coach then discussed his own club and the goals for next season.

“I’m happy to be coaching Juventus, I’m enjoying it right now,” he said. “Our goal for next season is to win a fifth league title in a row.

“It was understandable [that I received a cold reception on joining Juventus] but the club protected me.”

On his predecessor Antonio Conte he added: “In football the only thing that matters is winning, no coach is better than another.

“We are both different, but we have both won at Juventus.”
