AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has confirmed his desire to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as coach for the upcoming season.

He has stated that vice-president Adriano Galliani has already met with the 55-year-old tactician and that he hopes to persuade him to avoid a sabbatical year and instead take the Rossoneri reins with immediate effect.

“I really hope that Ancelotti will return to the Milan bench next year,” said Berlusconi to Radio Montecarlo.

“He is tied to us with a strong affection, and he has won at every club he has coached.

“Obviously with Milan, but also with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and also Real Madrid.”

He continued: “Carlo wants to take a year of rest but Galliani has spent several hours with him trying to persuade him.

“We hope to succeed in our attempts to convince him to come and we want to make him our coach for next season straight away.”

Ancelotti was previously Milan coach from 2001 to 2009 and won a total of two Champions League titles as well one Scudetto and a Coppa Italia.
