Andrea Bertolacci GenoaGenoa midfielder Andrea Bertolacci is proud of his side’s season even though they are likely to miss out on European football.

The Grifone’s potential Europa League spot is could be reallocated after they were denied a UEFA license by the FIGC for failing to appoint an alternate venue in which they would play their fixtures should renovation work on the Stadio Ferraris not be complete. Genoa are currently appealing the decision.

Bertolacci told Sky Sport Italia that despite their frustration, he was pleased with his side’s performance.

“The situation motivated us more.” he admitted, “Europe was a not a goal we set at the start of the season, but we started to believe in it two months ago.

“The coach made us play open football against everyone this season and I have enjoyed it more than ever,” he went on.

“As far as I’m concerned what we have achieved on the field is incredible.”

Genoa may well see city rivals Sampdoria fill the final Europa League spot in their stead.
