Sassuolo defender Paolo Cannavaro joked that his teammates owe him a dinner after his goalline clearance helped the Neroverdi to a 1-0 victory over Udinese on Sunday afternoon.
The 33-year-old cleared an Antonio Di Natale effort off the line early in the second half before Francesco Magnanelli scored his first Serie A goal soon after, allowing the Neroverdi to claim all three points at the Stadio Friuli.
“We had a delicate moment, but we are a real team and we have received what we deserved,” he told Sky Sport Italia after the match.
“The goalline clearance on Di Natale was key, so my teammates owe me dinner, just as Magnanelli’s goal was decisive.
“We joked with him that he never scored, though he is an important player for us.”
