Cassano Parma UltrasAntonio Cassano has revealed that he was close to a return to Inter in the winter, but Roberto Mancini decided against the move at the last moment.

The 32-year-old Italian international has been a free agent for since January after having his contract terminated with the Ducali over unpaid wages, and is now willing to bide his time to find the right club in the summer.

“Mancini could have brought me to Inter? Yes, I spoke with [Piero] Ausilio who is my friend and I respect very much, and there was an opportunity,” Cassano told Stadio Sprint.

“Then Mancini did the numbers, and thought rightly: ‘one free transfer can not give me much’. Then a month later, they signed Felipe, a free transfer.

“But, defenders are in fashion! I’m happy for Felipe, he is a friend of mine.”
