AC Milan v Parma - Antonio CassanoFree agent Antonio Cassano has expressed his desire to continue plying his trade in Serie A, and remains hopeful of a possible return to the Italy national team.

The 32-year-old had made 20 appearances for league strugglers Parma, before having his contract cancelled by mutual consent in January.

And reports suggest that, after spending time in the peripheries, Cassano is on the lookout for a club, with Olimpiacos, Sporting Lisbon and Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro all touted as possible destinations.

Nevertheless, Cassano reiterates his desire to remain in his home country as it will boost his chances of being noticed by Italy boss Antonio Conte.

“I miss my work and expect to come back to play soon,” he said.

“I have received proposals from Olimpiacos, Sporting Lisbon and Atletico Mineiro, but I still hope for a call from our championship because I want to return the national team.

“It’s almost an impossible task, but I have to at least make the best choice to try to get back in.”

The news comes after Cassano revealed that Serie A champions Juventus had tried to sign him back in the January transfer window, but coach Massimilano Allegri opted to sign Alessandro Matri instead.
