Italy coach Antonio Conte has praised Juventus after they were the first Italian side to qualify for a major European final since Inter won the Champions League in 2010.

The 45-year-old tactician who previously won three Scudetti with the Bianconeri has stated that he hopes that this recent progression in a European competition will trigger an Italian revival on the world football stage.

“To take an Italian team to the Champions League final is an extraordinary achievement,” said Conte to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It is an important event for Italian football but we must not delude ourselves.

“I hope that what we have achieved this season will spark a steady revival with our national team as well other Italian clubs.”

The Azzurri coach has also noted the current issue of foreign players in Italian football and he has expressed his desire to see more home-grown players next season.

“This year there has been a large decrease on teams relying upon home-grown players,” he continued.

“I understand that in the end it is the final result that counts but let’s hope next year that more teams decide to use our Italian players.”
