Aurelio De Laurentiis NapoliNapoli are set to inject €50 million into this summer’s transfer market in an effort to prevent Juventus from attaining a fifth straight Scudetto next season, provided the Partenopei qualify for next year’s Champions League.

The Azzurri can qualify for the group stage directly by surmounting Roma or Lazio for second place, Napoli currently sit in fourth and trail Roma by four points with four Serie A matches left in the campaign, or they can punch their ticket by lifting the Europa League trophy.

The Corriere del Mezzogiorno reports Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is desperate to extend coach Rafa Benitez’s contract and has informed the Spaniard a significant investment of €50 million will be made if qualification is secured.

The club failed to invest significantly in last summer’s transfer market, afraid of the lottery of the Champions League play-off, and subsequently lost to Athletic Club setting the stage early for a disappointing campaign.

Napoli will hope to make up the points gap and profit from a slip from either of the capital clubs in the last few matches though the simpler path to the Champions League may be by winning the Europa League for the second time in the club’s history.
